“As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him,” Psalms18:30 (NIV).
Perfect and flawless are words that are hard to grasp on earth. Nothing here is perfect or flawless. The verse says that God’s way is perfect. Other versions use the term “blameless”. Some days his way doesn’t seem perfect. Struggles come. Life throws you some curve balls. The situation doesn’t go the way you planned. That’s where you move to the rest of the verse.
It says God’s word is flawless: without cracks: having no internal flaws: being entirely without fault or defect: satisfying all requirements. Other versions use these words to describe God’s word: proven, pure, tried, blameless, refined, tested, reliable. There is nothing on earth that is comparable to God’s word and that is evidenced by the words used to describe it. You cannot find anything that is 100% tested and reliable, which is why you can go to God’s word to find comfort and direction during the challenges. When you go to God’s word, it activates the rest of the verse-he is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
This can sometimes feel illusive, though. When you’re going through the challenges and God seems quiet, it can feel like he is not there shielding you. That’s where the mindset shifts to survival. That’s a normal, human reaction to stress. It’s important to remember that God doesn’t want you to stay in survival mode. His flawless word is available to reveal his perfect plan and shield you, so you can thrive-not just survive.
